Copyrights and Creative Commons
I’m pleased to announce that the contents of this website, including any music, images, video, etc. are released under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivativeWorks 3.0 United States License.
Mike Stop Continues’ Content
This is the image they gave me:
Here’s a quick run-down of what it means:
- CreativeCommons. You are free to copy, distribute and transmit the work (without profiting from doing so).
- Attribution. You must attribute the work to Mike Stop Continues providing a link to http://mikestopcontinues.com (or directly to the content in question).
- NonCommercial. You may not use this work for commercial purposes.
- NoDerivativeWorks. You may not alter, transform, or build upon this work.
This license specifies that you may not make any derivative works based on the work you find here. However, this is not to say that you may never do so. In fact, I feel very passionately that you should have the right to freely modify and distribute ‘derivative works’ and I am willing to provide an alternative license to anyone who contacts me wishing to, for any reason, create a ‘derivative work’.
The reason I do not use a license which allows for derivative works by default is because that would prevent me from learning of any second generation transformations of the work found here. The fact is, I want to experience those works and the creative commons license that allows for modifications, the CC Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike license, does not necessitate that I be made aware of any derivatives.
This is my promise:
So long as you provide a copy of or access to your derivative work, not only am I willing to link directly to its location from my site, but I will also offer free hosting of said work if you don’t have a place to display and share it from. If you have not received confirmation that you have succeeded at contacting me, understand that publishing a derivative work is in full violation of my trust and the law.
Thank you, in all parts, for agreeing to the lax requirements outlined here. If you’d like to do something that might not be covered by this license (like distribute my work or your work based-on my work commercially), contact me!
User-Generated Content
Finally, all comments posted on this website, by myself and all users, are released under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 United States License. This is cool because most websites just steal these rights from you (remember all those EULAs you didn’t read?) whereas I make sure you keep your rights, while allowing my website to function legally.
This is what that license looks like:
Also, you must remember that you are legally accountable for everything you post here. Follow the law and everything will be alright.
